Express Tutoring: Subjects & Learning Skills

Need focused academic support without scheduling an appointment? Starting fall 2026, Express Tutoring provides drop-in help with select course subjects and learning skills support, formerly offered through ACE consultations. Express Tutoring is offered in person at TCH 117 and is subject to tutor availability. This additional option does not replace SARC’s group or scheduled one-on-one peer tutoring for supported course subjects.

Subject Tutoring

Express subject tutors provide focused support with questions and concepts in select supported courses. Tutors can help students clarify course material, work through problems, and develop strategies for approaching similar questions independently. Because supported subjects and tutor availability vary by day and time, students should review the current subject availability below, or use the subject availability link, before visiting.

Learning Skills Tutoring (Formerly ACE)

Learning Skills Tutors help students develop practical strategies and successful academic habits. Formerly offered through ACE consultations, learning skills support is now available exclusively through Express Tutoring. Students may return throughout the semester to continue strengthening their learning strategies and academic habits.

Learning Skills Tutors can help with a wide range of academic success topics, including:

  • Time management
  • Organizational skills
  • Study skills
  • Test preparation
  • Textbook reading
  • Note-taking
  • Succeeding in online courses
  • Navigating Webcourses
  • Understanding different course modalities (mixed-mode, online, video-enhanced, etc.)
  • Using the syllabus to plan for the semester in an online course
  • Motivation and goal-setting
  • Stress management and wellness
  • Campus resources and opportunities

How Express Tutoring Works

  1. Visit TCH 117 during the applicable Express Tutoring hours; Express Tutoring is offered in-person only.
  2. Join the queue in Penji for subject or learning skills support.
